Job summary

Engineering Resource Group, Inc. seeks a Mechanical Designer to produce and maintain detailed drawings for large-scale industrial power equipment using 2D and 3D CAD.

You will develop ducting and piping layouts, translate specs into finished production drawings, verify compliance with standards, and prepare materials lists. Occasional site/travel support may be required.

Qualifications

• Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in CAD or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 3 years of hands-on design/drafting in structural steel, vessels, ducting, piping.
• Proficient in AutoCAD and 3D solid modeling software; capable of 3D models.
• Working knowledge of OSHA, AISC and ASME codes and standards.
• Familiarity with welding as applied to structural steel and pressure vessels.
• Strong written and verbal communication; self-driven and analytical.

Job description

• Permanent position for a Mechanical Designer producing and maintaining detailed technical drawings and assembly documentation for large-scale industrial power equipment using 2D and 3D CAD.
• Develop detailed ducting drawings specifying dimensions, tolerances, and weld callouts.
• Lay out general piping arrangements with accompanying pipe support detail drawings.
• Translate project specifications and conceptual sketches into finished production drawings.
• Verify that drawings comply with project specifications, client requirements, and applicable industry standards.
• Prepare bills of material for completed drawings.
• Review shop fabrication and erection drawings submitted by steel, duct, and equipment fabricators.
• Evaluate construction feasibility and propose design revisions that improve fabrication.
• Travel occasionally (~10%) to sites and vendors to support drawings and inspect fabricated parts against specifications.
• Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Computer-Aided Design and Drafting, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 3 years of hands‑on design and drafting experience in structural steel, vessels, ducting, and piping for the power, heavy industrial, or petrochem sector.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD along with 3D solid modeling software (Inventor, MicroStation), with the ability to produce 3D models.
• Working knowledge of applicable codes and standards including OSHA, AISC, and ASME.
• Familiarity with welding as applied to structural steel and pressure vessels.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Self‑driven, analytical problem solver able to manage multiple concurrent assignments without sacrificing quality.
