We are currently seeking a Mechanical Design / Tooling Engineer to join our team in Batesville, IN.
Your Role at Batesville:
As a Mechanical Design / Tooling Engineer, this position will support the design, development, improvement, and implementation of tooling, fixtures, equipment, and manufacturing processes across the plant.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineer with strong CAD skills who enjoys solving practical manufacturing problems and working closely with operators, technicians, engineers, and production leadership. This role provides an opportunity to develop skills in mechanical design, CAD, tooling, automation, process improvement, and project management while gaining broad exposure to a diverse manufacturing environment.

- The expected base salary range for this role is $95,000 – $102,000per year. Actual compensation within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to qualifications, skills, experience, and location.

What You’ll Do:
- Design and modify tooling, fixtures, gauges, and machine components using 3D CAD and engineering principles.
- Develop detailed drawings, specifications, bills of material, and other documentation necessary for fabrication and implementation.
- Work with toolmakers, maintenance personnel, fabricators, and outside suppliers to develop and implement tooling solutions.
- Evaluate existing tooling and equipment and identify opportunities for improvement, standardization, and cost reduction.
- Conduct annual die review and follow up with required actions related to annual press inspections.
- Obtain quotes, write capital funding requests, coordinates machinery installations or tooling modifications or upgrades.
- Provides engineering services daily to maintenance and tool room.
- Develop project timelines, track action items, and communicate project status.
What You’ll Bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering and/or 2-5 years of relevant industry experience.
- Good understanding of machining processes and safety controls.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and technical skills.
- Proficiency in CAD, GD&T, engineering documentation, and mechanical design practices.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and interest in manufacturing.
- Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical team members.
- Willingness to spend significant time working directly on the manufacturing floor.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
Nice to Haves:
- Good working knowledge of forming of carbon steel, stainless, and non-ferrous substrate materials.
- Good working knowledge of stamping presses, screw machines, and roll form machines.
- Programming experience is a plus (robotic - Fanuc machines)
