Job summary

Chart Industries Beasley, TX is seeking a Mechanical Design Systems Engineer to lead design efforts for Reciprocating Compressors Packages in North America. You will produce production drawings, BOMs, 3D models, and perform analyses to ensure designs meet specs.

You will collaborate with sales, manufacturing, and service teams, review customer specifications, and drive project schedules while supporting manufacturing and post-sales inquiries.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering (or equivalent).
  • 1+ years of experience in air/gas handling, rotating equipment or turbo machinery.
  • Ability to perform engineering calculations and interpret technical drawings.
  • Familiarity with ANSI, ASME, ASTM, API, MIL, SAE.
  • Proficiency in Creo, ANSYS, SolidWorks, AutoCAD and MS Office.
  • Strong problem-solving, organizational and communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel as required.

Responsibilities

  • Specify and size system components to support the compressor.
  • Create equipment production drawings and BOM packages for manufacturing.
  • Create and release 3D Models, General Arrangements, P&ID, and BOM for manufacturing.
  • Perform engineering analyses using software, Excel, or hand calculations (strength, statics, dynamics, thermodynamics, vibrations, sound).
  • Material selection, review against specs, minor failure analysis.
  • Review customer/project specs outside standard scope to ensure design alignment.
  • Develop schedules for engineering execution to meet deadlines and budget.
  • Provide design support for sales, supply chain, and product development.
  • Compose technical reports and procedures in support of project execution and sales.
  • Review drawings and data sheets from sub-suppliers to ensure integration.
  • Review design changes to ensure proper design controls.
  • Collaborate with Project Manager to ensure scope, schedule and budget.
  • Coordinate with engineers/consultants for accuracy and first-time quality.
  • Interact with customers to provide design explanations and reviews.
  • Support manufacturing by troubleshooting processes and components.
  • Provide technical assistance to aftermarket and field services.
  • Partner with central functions to align strategies and tactics.
  • Drive process improvements within product teams and divisions.
  • Represent Chart Industries with customers and partners.

Our Beasley, TX location is seeking a Mechanical Design Systems Engineer to Perform / lead / manage the design engineering functions of a project including overall machine and equipment package design and creation of production drawings and support new product / project development and product enhancements for Reciprocating Compressors Packages (Piston and Diaphragm) in North America.

What Will You Do?
  • Specify and size system components to support the compressor
  • Create equipment production drawing and bill of material packages for manufacturing.
  • Create and release 3D Models, General Arrangements, P&ID, and bill of material for manufacturing.
  • Perform engineering analyses via various internal software programs, excel spreadsheets, or hand calculations in regards to strength of materials, statics, dynamics, thermodynamics, vibrations, and sound.
  • Perform material selection, review and compare to industry specifications, and minor failure analysis.
  • Perform technical review of customer / project specifications which contain requirements outside of our standard scope / design to ensure the product / project is designed and engineered meet agreed upon specifications.
  • Develop schedules for the engineering execution of each project to achieve successful completion of engineering responsibilities on time and within budget.
  • Perform engineering design support for sales, supply chain development, and product development / product enhancements.
  • Compose technical reports and procedures in support of project execution, sales support, and product development.
  • Review drawings, data sheets, and procedures from sub-suppliers to ensure the design can be correctly integrated to the equipment package and ensure project specification compliance.
  • Review design / project changes which deviate from a previously approved design, to ensure appropriate design controls have been applied.
  • Requires working with and responsibility to the Project Manager to ensure scope and design accuracy while maintaining on-time and on-budget project performance.
  • Requires working directly with other engineering and design colleagues or consultants to ensure design accuracy and first-time quality.
  • Requires working directly with customers to provide design explanations, reviews, and clarifications in support of the project.
  • Support manufacturing of final product by troubleshooting process and component problems.
  • Provide technical assistance to aftermarket, field services, and shared services in regard to design clarifications and problem resolution.
  • Partners with all central functions such as Quality, Engineering, Finance, IT, and HR to ensure that enabling strategies and tactics are in place and are consistent with broader business strategies and tactics.
  • Participates, establishes, and drives process improvements within both the product team and across product divisions to ensure the group meets common KPI’s, continuous improvement, and skill knowledge transfer.
  • Represents the Company with customers and business partners.
Your Experience Should Be...
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering (or equivalent)
  • 1+ years of experience in air/gas handling, rotating equipment or turbo machinery.
  • Ability to perform engineering calculations and interpret technical drawings
  • Familiarity with industry standards (ANSI, ASME, ASTM, API, MIL, SAE)
  • Proficiency in engineering software (Creo, ANSYS, SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and Microsoft Office tools
  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects independently and meet deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written)
  • Willingness to travel as required
