Job Overview

Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineering Department Manager 3 located in Roy, UT. This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.

Responsibilities
  • Provide oversight and assistance to multiple programs within the Division portfolio (Sentinel GBSD and ICBM Sustainment); to provide the people, skills, and processes for successful achievement of program goals.
  • Provide enabling support for all business areas within the SDS portfolio including the Air Force’s sustainment, development, production and deployment of hardware and system modifications for Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM), Launch Facilities, and associated infrastructure.
  • Analyze current release process, gaps, and resolution to ensure throughput of PDP releases at design review milestones.
  • Own and lead improvements across design department for employee engagement, hiring, development, training, attraction, and retention of top talent.
  • Mentor, develop, and train section managers and overall employee base.
  • Support proposal work, independent technical reviews, program stand‑up, audits, and special assignments on an as‑needed basis.
  • Create and manage high performing teams while providing technical, administrative and management expertise in the day‑to‑day activities required to successfully execute complex engineering programs.
Qualifications

Minimum requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM discipline and 8 years of experience; 6 years with a Master’s.
  • Active DoD Secret clearance with a reinvestigation date occurring in the last 6 years.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and be able to obtain and maintain Special Program Access (SAP). Must also have the ability to obtain Top Secret clearance.
  • At least 1 year of experience working in the Aerospace and/or Defense field.
  • 3 years of experience as CAM and or EVMS.
  • Excellent communication, mentoring, interpersonal skills, and the ability to collaborate with senior management, peers, and employees.

Nice to have:

  • Experience working on ICBMs.
  • Understanding and proven experience leading Sustainment technical scope of work.
  • Active TS clearance, program access.
  • Familiarity with Agile engineering and Jira.
  • Experience managing an engineering team is preferred and includes a minimum of 3 years in a formal lead/management position.
  • Experience creating or growing new sections or departments.
  • Working knowledge and/or experience across engineering disciplines.
  • General understanding of Northrop Grumman engineering processes.
  • Proven performance as an engineering leader in all phases of acquisition, design, integration, and execution.
  • Ability to rapidly assess and lend guidance to projects assigned to the organizational group as well as demonstrated mentoring and guidance to engineers.

Work Schedule

The standard work schedule is 9/80, allowing employees who work a nine‑hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

Salary

Primary level salary range: $151,500.00 – $227,300.00. Base salary offers may vary based on factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate experience, education, skills, and current market conditions. Employees may also be eligible for overtime, shift differential, discretionary bonus, and long‑term incentives.
