Job summary

Collins Aerospace is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineering Co-op in Windsor Locks to work on hydraulic and pneumatic components for airframe and engine systems. You will generate hardware designs that operate in fluid environments and withstand challenging conditions, using physics-based 1D models and CFD verification.

You'll collaborate with Project Engineering, Dynamic Engineering, Systems Engineering, Drafting, and Structures on an integrated team, and gain hands-on experience with CAD/CAE

Qualifications

• Must be pursuing a Bachelor’s or Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related STEM major and actively enrolled through the completion of the internship/co-op session.
• Must have a minimum of 45 hours of credit by the start of the internship / co-op session

What You Will Do

Immerse yourself in a full-time, Monday-Friday co-op session, that will run May/June- December (including the Fall semester; it is expected students will take a semester off from coursework to fully engage with this working mentorship opportunity).

As a Mechanical Design Engineering Co-op in the Mechanical Controls product line at Collins Aerospace, you will participate on a team to evaluate customer and subsystem hydraulic and/or pneumatic component requirements to generate compliant hardware designs for airframe and engine systems. Parts are designed to operate in fluid environments (fuel, oil, air), and function under challenging operating conditions. Designs are done by generating physics-based performance models (1D) and verified using CFD.

Designs are also analyzed structurally using FEA. Candidate will work within an integrated team that includes Project Engineering, Dynamic Engineering, Systems Engineering, Drafting, and Structures.

Qualifications You Must Have

• Must be pursuing a Bachelor’s or Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) major and actively enrolled through the completion of the internship/co-op session.
• Must have a minimum of 45 hours of credit by the start of the internship / co-op session

Experience may be obtained through on-the-job experience, research, coursework, or projects.

Qualifications We Prefer

• Experience with 2D and 3D Computer Aided Design (CAD) software such as UG NX, Catia, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Autodesk or equivalent
• Experience in CFD tools such as StarCCM+ and/or in FEA tools such as ANSYS, ABAQUS, or equivalent
• Experience with additive manufacturing
• Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and/or Outlook)
• Prior RTX internship, co-op, or work experience

The salary range for this role is 37,000 USD - 82,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
