Job summary
Zoox is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer for the Sensor Cleaning team to ensure reliable sensor performance in real-world conditions. You will design and validate cleaning systems for cameras, LiDARs, and perception sensors, and work across packaging, testing, and manufacturing to bring concepts to production.
You will lead cross-functional efforts, develop CAD models and drawings, and contribute to DFMEA/PFMEA and PPAP processes while optimizing cost and manufacturability across the supply
Qualifications
- BS in Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics with 5+ years or MS with 3+ years in automotive
- Strong mechanical design fundamentals: plastics, sheet metal, machined parts
- 3D CAD proficiency: CATIA/NX/Creo/SolidWorks
- Experience leading cross-functional teams and APQP/PPAP processes
- Sensor cleaning experience a plus
Responsibilities
- Develop sensor cleaning components and systems to keep sensors free of contaminants
- Design, build, and test mockups and prototypes
- Create CAD models, drawings, and BOMs
- Support test and validation teams in design and failure analysis
- Collaborate with manufacturing to ramp production and cost engineering
