Job summary

Zoox seeks a versatile Sensor & Hardware Safety Engineer to bridge hardware reliability with real-world system behavior. The hybrid role splits 50% hardware-level Functional Safety (ISO 26262) and 50% system-level sensor safety (SOTIF / ISO 21448), ensuring ASIL compliance while safeguarding camera, LiDAR, and radar sensors.

You will work with software, firmware, and EE teams to shape architecture, validate designs, and support V&V for edge-case scenarios in a dynamic autonomous stack.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Automotive, Robotics, Aerospace or Electrical Engineering.
• 3+ years of hands-on hardware design, board bring-up, or silicon validation.
• Familiarity with SOTIF and ISO 26262 safety protocols.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate supplier documentation to verify SEooC and AoU alignment.
• Guarantee ASIL compliance for firmware/software maturity and diagnostics.
• Perform FMEDA for ICs, including FPGAs and microcontrollers.
• Define architectural requirements with software, FW, and EE teams.
• Support V&V in developing SOTIF-compliant tests for edge cases.
