Job summary

Boston Dynamics is seeking a Staff Mechanical Design Engineer to join the Spot Platform Team in Waltham, MA. You will own substantial portions of the robotic subsystem support and sustainment, driving technical decisions, cross-functional integration and continuous improvement of mechanical solutions for Spot.

You will lead initiatives to improve reliability and manufacturability, perform root cause analysis, and manage engineering change orders with documentation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field.
• 5+ years of experience in mechanical design, including robotics, automation, or complex electromechanical systems.
• Ability to lead major subsystem or full mechanical product designs.

Responsibilities

• Drive reliability and manufacturability improvements across the Spot platform and payloads.
• Conduct root cause analysis for field and production issues.
• Design, test and implement preventive and corrective measures.
• Create ECOs and maintain engineering drawings and BOMs.
• Perform system design evaluations focusing on DFA/DFM, reliability, and cost reduction.
• Collaborate with quality, manufacturing and supply chain to ensure manufacturability and cost targets.
• Identify and qualify replacement components to mitigate obsolescence risks.
