Job summary

Welker, a family-owned manufacturing company in Sugar Land, TX, seeks a Mechanical Design Engineer to own projects from concept through production. You will design and customize pressure-containing equipment and mechanical systems for various industrial applications, with hands-on oversight from design through build and testing.

You will work in a collaborative cross-functional team, applying DFM principles and ensuring compliance with ASME, PED, and IECEx standards, while supporting

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited Mechanical Engineering degree required.
• Strong proficiency in SolidWorks and 3D CAD.
• Familiar with ASME codes and pressure-containing equipment design.
• Understanding of machining, fabrication, and assembly processes.
• Detail-oriented with proactive ownership mindset.

Responsibilities

• Design and modify pressure-containing equipment and mechanical assemblies using SolidWorks.
• Interpret customer specifications, datasheets, and industry requirements to develop compliant design solutions.
• Perform engineering calculations (pressure design, stress analysis, tolerances, material selection).
• Ensure designs meet applicable codes and standards (ASME, PED, IECEx, CRN).
• Create and release detailed drawings, models, routers, and BOMs.
• Support product testing, certification, and technical documentation.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with manufacturing, sales, and quality teams.
• Apply design for manufacturability (DFM) principles to improve production efficiency.
• Troubleshoot design issues and contribute to continuous product improvement.
