Job summary

North Wind Services LLC is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to support the National Ignition Facility and Photon Science at LLNL in Livermore, CA. You will lead mechanical design from concept through fabrication, using Creo Parametric to develop components and assemblies, and applying GD&T and tolerance analysis to ensure robust, manufacturable designs.

Qualifications

• As degree or equivalent with applicable mechanical engineering experience.
• Broad background in mechanical, optical, and electrical sub-disciplines.
• Project lifecycle from conception to finish with fabrication involvement.
• Ability to develop a project from start to finish with examples.
• Demonstrated tolerance stack-up analysis and GD&T proficiency.
• Extensive experience with parametric solid modeling.
• Experience creating fabrication drawings with GD&T (ASME Y14.5).
• Experience creating assembly drawings showing design intent.
• Collaborative work in cross-disciplinary project teams.
• Clear verbal and written presentation skills to peers and managers.
• Ability to work independently and meet schedule targets.
• MS Word/Excel/PowerPoint proficiency and pre-employment readiness.

Responsibilities

• Develop and complete detailed hardware designs for laser/optical/mechanical use.
• Model concepts in Creo Parametric and produce assembly/fabrication drawings.
• Perform tolerance stack-up analyses to validate form/fit/function and cost.
• Apply basic stress/strain analyses to support material choices.
• Collaborate with engineers, scientists, designers, and technicians on projects.
