Job summary

HRL Laboratories is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to own the design, simulation, and experimental analysis of advanced electro‑mechanical hardware assemblies. The role involves leading cross‑functional teams from concept to closeout, with emphasis on infrared technology.

You will generate CAD drawings, perform design reviews, and ensure alignment with budget and schedule. The ideal candidate has 5+ years in design/manufacturing, hands‑on lab experience, and strong CAD/GD&T skills, plus

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
• 5+ years in design and manufacturing, preferably with infrared devices.
• Hands-on hardware development in a lab setting.
• Experience with CAD, GD&T, and technical documentation.

Responsibilities

• Generate and maintain design, simulations, and experimental analyses of electro‑mechanical hardware assemblies.
• Create product make/buy drawings with associated KPI & GD&T.
• Present mechanical design analyses to customers and collaborate with stakeholders to optimize system design.
• Maintain project budget and schedule using an Integrated Master Schedule (IMS).
• Create and track device performance trends and manufacturing process effectiveness using SPC.
• Lead a team from product inception to program closeout.
• Understand infrared hardware from macro and micro perspectives.
