Job summary

G&W Electric seeks a Mechanical Design Engineer II to design customer-specific switchgear for overhead and underground systems. You will lead design cycles, mentor teammates, and ensure compliance with IEEE, NEC, IEC, and other standards while collaborating across Product Development, Aftermarket Support, and Manufacturing.

You will apply CREO CAD and reliability tools within ISO environments, driving continuous improvement and root-cause analysis to deliver high-quality solutions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering from a four-year college.
  • 3+ years in a technical engineering role.
  • CAD experience with CREO; familiarity with power distribution standards.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; presentation skills.
  • Strong analytical, design and quantitative problem solving.
  • Experience in ISO-certified manufacturing environments.
  • FMEA/DFMEA, FEA and GD&T/DFM knowledge.
  • Root cause analysis and continuous improvement experience.
  • ERP experience with Oracle JD Edwards.
  • Industry standards related to power distribution experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and own team project communication and design cycle for moderately complex projects.
  • Provide design competency to IEEE/NEC/IEC/ANSI/UL/NEMA standards.
  • Design products to internal engineering standards within lead time and quality.
  • Mentor and train design team members; maintain technical aptitude.
  • Contribute to feasibility analyses with customers and applications.
  • Act as change agent to resolve root causes through problem solving.
  • Provide technical support for internal and external customers.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally on product development, aftermarket, and manufacturing projects.

Mechanical Design Engineer II

The Mechanical Design Engineer II within our Production Engineering team is responsible for designing customer specified custom switchgear products to our G&Ws quality standard This position will specialize in our entire catalog of overhead and underground switchgear products G&W is excited to engage a self motivated and results oriented individual to join our fast paced collaborative work environment that offers consistent learning opportunities and problem solving experience

Responsibilities
  • Lead and own team project communication schedule and all aspects of design cycle of moderately complex projects and customer orders
  • Provide design competency to industry standards IEEE NEC IEC ANSI UL NEMA etc
  • Design products to internal engineering design standards and best practices within customer lead time and quality expectations
  • Mentor train coach and maintain technical aptitude among design team members
  • Participate in design feasibility contributions to customers and application experts
  • Be a change agent in department and company by identifying and resolving root causes through problem solving activities
  • Provide technical support for internal and external customers
  • Collaborate cross functionally to support and provide technical aptitude for company and departmental projects as needed eg Product Development Aftermarket Support Application Engineering Supply Chain and Manufacturing
Requirements
  • Holds a Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering from four year College
  • Has 3 years of experience in a technical engineering role
  • Has CAD experience
  • Possesses excellent written and verbal communication skills and has demonstrated presentation skills to diverse audiences
  • Has strong analytical design and quantitative problem solving skills
  • Preferably a candidate will also have CREO CAD Software experience
  • Leadership and Training Change Management experience
  • Continuous improvement initiatives
  • Root Cause Analysis Problem Solving strategies
  • ISO Certified Manufacturing Environment experience
  • Reliability Design Tools Design For Manufacturability DFM Failure Mode Effect Analysis FMEA Finite Element Analysis FEA Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerance GD&T Design of Experiments DOE
  • Experience with Oracle JD Edwards Business System
  • Experience with Industry Standards Related power distribution experience

Typical pay is 74732 97193 annually Please note the pay information shown above is a general guideline Pay is based upon candidate skills experience and qualifications This position is eligible for participation in our Quarterly Incentive Pay Program
