Job description

Schaeffler is a dynamic global technology company and its success has been a result of its entrepreneurial spirit and long history of private ownership. As a partner to all of the major automobile manufacturers, as well as key players in the aerospace and industrial sectors, we offer you many development opportunities.

Your Key Responsibilities

Join our humanoid robotics team to innovate advanced robots, collaborate with experts, enhance your skills, and create transformative technologies that help shape the future of human-robot interaction.

  • Design planetary gearset actuators for humanoid robots (and similar types).
  • Create detailed mechanical designs for humanoid joint actuators, including 3D modeling, drafting, and prototyping. Ensure designs meet performance, safety, and durability requirements.
  • Perform simulations and finite element analysis (FEA) to evaluate the performance and structural integrity of actuator components. Optimize designs based on analysis results to improve efficiency and reliability.
  • Identify and select appropriate materials for actuator components, considering factors such as strength, weight, and cost. Ensure materials meet industry standards and application requirements.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineers, software developers, and manufacturing personnel. Ensure seamless integration of mechanical designs with other system components.
  • Develop and execute test plans to validate the performance and reliability of humanoid joint actuators. Analyze test data and iterate on designs to address any issues or improvements.
Your Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. Advanced degrees or specialized coursework in robotics or automation are a plus.
  • 2+ years of experience using CAD software such as Creo, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or CATIA to develop detailed mechanical designs and 3D models.
  • Strong knowledge of gear design is required, along with fundamental experience in planetary gear actuators.
  • Familiarity with actuator systems including electric, hydraulic, and pneumatic actuators, with experience designing and optimizing these systems for humanoid robots.
  • Strong analytical skills for conducting simulations and finite element analysis (FEA) to evaluate and improve mechanical component performance. Ability to troubleshoot and resolve design challenges.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in cross-functional teams. Ability to document and present design processes, test results, and technical specifications clearly and concisely.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States. This role does not offer visa sponsorship or support.
Our Offering
  • Please see all our medical, dental, and vision insurance offerings at Schaeffler Benefits
  • Life insurance and 401k eligible with up to 6% company match
