Job summary

Schaeffler in Troy, MI is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join the Humanoid Robotics team and design planetary gearset actuators for humanoid joints. You will create detailed 3D models, perform analyses, and collaborate with electrical, software and manufacturing teams to ensure seamless integration.

Requirements include a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and 2+ years using CAD tools (Creo, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, CATIA).

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 2+ years of experience using CAD software to develop detailed mechanical designs and 3D models.
• Strong knowledge of gear design and planetary gear actuators.
• Familiarity with actuator systems (electric, hydraulic, pneumatic).
• Strong analytical skills for simulations/FEA and design optimization.
• Excellent teamwork and clear communication in cross-functional teams.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States; visa sponsorship not offered.

Responsibilities

• Design planetary gearset actuators for humanoid robots and similar systems.
• Create detailed mechanical designs, 3D models, and prototypes; ensure performance, safety, and durability.
• Perform simulations and FEA to evaluate performance and reliability; optimize accordingly.
• Select materials for actuator components to balance strength, weight, and cost.
• Collaborate with electrical, software, and manufacturing teams for system integration.
• Develop and execute test plans to validate actuator performance and iterate designs.
