Walden Robotics in Cambridge, MA is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to design, build, and ship high-performance actuators for our humanoid robot. You will own actuator mechanical components and subassemblies—from gear trains to sensor and motor packaging—and collaborate with controls, electrical, firmware, and manufacturing teams to translate requirements into robust hardware.

The role emphasizes end-to-end ownership, hands-on prototyping, validation, and transition to high-volume

Qualifications

• 5+ years delivering precision electromechanical or actuator products from concept through production.
• Deep expertise in actuator and drivetrain design (gear trains, bearing selection, backlash, stiffness).
• Proficient in 3D CAD and GD&T with rigorous tolerance analysis.
• Demonstrated capability with hand calculations and FEA for structural, fatigue, and thermal design decisions.
• Hands-on experience building, instrumenting, and testing hardware (dynamometer/bench).
• Strong communication and cross-functional ownership.

Responsibilities

• Design actuator mechanical subsystems (gear trains, housings, bearings, shafting, interfaces).
• Drive sizing and validation via first-principles analysis and FEA.
• Own designs from concept to production release; coordinate with external manufacturers.
• Partner with controls/electrical/firmware to define actuator requirements and integration points.
• Lead design reviews and hardware bring-up; plan bench and dynamometer testing to characterize performance.
• Establish design standards and mentor engineers across the team.
