Mechanical Design Engineer – Busbar Systems for Data Centers

Job summary

Vertiv Corporation seeks a mechanical design engineer to design and release busbar assemblies and tap-off boxes for data center applications. You will generate 2D/3D SolidWorks models from requirements and load production with material needs from approved drawings.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to run trial builds, ensure compliance with ANSI/ISO standards, and prepare BOMs and manufacturing instructions for release.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering preferred.
• 3+ years of experience in mechanical design, preferably in an engineered-to-order environment.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
• Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes including sheet metal fabrication (steel, copper, aluminum).
• Understanding of ANSI/ISO standards and regulatory bodies (UL/CSA/ETL).
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
• Experience with SolidWorks PDM system.

Responsibilities

• Design and release custom busbar assemblies and tap-off boxes for data center use.
• Generate 2D and 3D SolidWorks models from project requirements.
• Load production systems with material requirements from approved drawings.
• Prepare technical submittals and provide accurate 2D drawings.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to run trial designs and support mass production release.
• Ensure designs meet industry standards, regulatory requirements, and customer specs.
• Provide BOMs, manufacturing instructions, and design reports.
• Work with manufacturing to resolve design issues on the shop floor.
• Modify existing designs and create ETO solutions.
• Participate in peer-review release process for models/drawings and provide feedback.
