Job summary

Bastion Technologies in Houston, TX, seeks a Mechanical Design Engineer to support NASA's space exploration programs. The role involves collaborating with a team to analyze requirements, develop design solutions, and produce drawings conforming to ASME Y14.5 and GD&T standards.

• Must have a bachelor's degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering.
• Must have a minimum of 2+ years of related work experience.
• Experience designing parts and assemblies using 3D CAD modeling software.
• Experience producing drawings conforming to ASME Y14.5.
• Experience applying tolerance analyses, including GD&T and thermal effects.
• Experience with machine shop processes and rapid prototyping (3D printing).
• Experience with structural and thermal analyses of parts and assemblies.

Mechanical Design Engineer - Space Exploration Projects – Will support the space program located in Houston, TX.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Support NASA's future space exploration activities.
• Work in a team environment to analyze requirements and develop design solutions.
• Design, develop, test, analyze, and implement technical products and systems.
• Perform engineering design evaluations.
• Produce engineering drawings conforming to applicable standards.
• Perform dimensional tolerance analyses, including thermal effects and GD&T.
• Perform functional, structural and thermal analyses as required.
• Support design with hand calculations for fit, function, strength and thermal response.
• Prepare and present at various design reviews.
• Produce other design documentation as required.
• Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED

• This position requires US Citizenship or Permanent Resident status due to the sensitivity of customer related information.
• Must have a bachelor's degree in the field of mechanical or aerospace engineering.
• Must have a minimum of 2+ years of recent and related work experience.
• Experience designing parts and assemblies using 3D CAD modeling software.
• Experience producing drawings conforming to ASME Y14.5.
• Experience applying tolerance analyses, including thermal effects and GD&T.
• Experience with machine shop processes and rapid prototyping (3D printing).

DESIRED

• Prior NASA (especially JSC) or aerospace development & manufacturing experience.
• Familiarity with JSC Engineering Drawing System Manual (JPR 8500).
• Familiarity with JSC Fabrication Tolerances and Practices (SKZ36103755).
• Experience designing NASA flight hardware and creating drawings for NASA/JSC.
• Mechanisms or robotics design experience.
• Experience using PTC CREO or Pro/Engineer and related extensions such as Cabling, Piping, Sheetmetal and Simulation.
• Experience leading technical design teams and mentoring junior engineers.
• NASA or aerospace mechanical design experience.

WORK LOCATION

• This position is located onsite and offers a 9/80 schedule with every other Friday off; some travel may be required.
• Schedules are subject to change based on the requirements of the position and/or customer needs.

BACKGROUND INVESTIGATIONS REQUIRED

• Must have experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and TEAMS.

• Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of the time) and may require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of the time).
• Regular attendance in accordance with an established work schedule is critical.
