Yank Technologies, Inc. is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to tackle complex design challenges from concept through detailed design.
You will design parts and assemblies in SolidWorks, select materials, create drawings, and maintain BOMs for in-house manufacturing and external vendors. Responsibilities include applying DFM/DFA, hands-on 3D printing, assembling and testing hardware, and developing thermal solutions.
The primary responsibilities of the Mechanical Design Engineer are as follows:
Solve complex mechanical design challenges, developing concepts and trade studies and carrying designs through detailed design
Design parts, mechanisms, and assemblies in SolidWorks, including precision, adjustable, and multi-part assemblies
Select materials, fasteners, and manufacturing processes appropriate to each application
Create engineering drawings and maintain BOMs and CAD data for in-house fabrication and outside vendors
Apply design for manufacturing and assembly (DFM/DFA) principles and work with vendors on machined, printed, and fabricated parts
Hands-on experience with 3D printing, including printer operation, material selection, and design for additive manufacturing
Assemble, test, and troubleshoot hardware in the lab, and refine designs based on results
Develop practical thermal solutions, such as heat sinks, thermoelectric coolers, and improved conduction paths, using hand calculations and quick simulations to guide design decisions
Participate in design reviews and produce clear documentation, test reports, and assembly procedures
Collaborate with electrical, systems, and manufacturing teams on system-level integration and the transition from prototype to production
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
3+ years of full-time experience in mechanical design and hardware development
Demonstrated ability to solve challenging mechanical design problems creatively and practically
Strong proficiency in SolidWorks, including part and assembly modeling and drawings
Solid understanding of mechanical, structural, and thermal design fundamentals
Experience taking designs from concept through prototype and test
Experience with 3D printing and design for additive manufacturing
Hands-on experience assembling, testing, and debugging hardware
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment, meet deadlines, and make effective and timely decisions
Eagerness to learn new technologies and apply sound engineering to unfamiliar problems
Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering
Working knowledge of GD&T and tolerance stack-up analysis
Experience with FEA or thermal simulation tools (e.g., SolidWorks Simulation, Ansys)
Machining, metalworking, or other fabrication experience
Experience with mechanisms, precision assemblies, or electromechanical systems
Prior experience in aerospace, automotive, industrial, or other demanding hardware applications
Prior experience working in a startup
Prior experience in wireless power
Portfolio of designed and built projects
