Job summary

SMTI in Williston, VT is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to develop advanced equipment for semiconductor manufacturing. You will generate design concepts, create detailed drawings and assemblies, and help drive precision, stability and thermal performance in challenging environments.

You will collaborate with cross‑functional teams to translate specs into manufacturable solutions. Proficiency with SolidWorks, GD&T, ISO standards, and ERP/PLM tools (SAP/ECTR) is required, along with 3+ years

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field.
  • 3+ years of design engineering of precision machinery, preferably in the semiconductor equipment industry.
  • Strong knowledge of geometric tolerancing (GD&T) and ISO standards.
  • Proficient in SolidWorks 3D CAD.
  • Experience with ERP and PLM systems (SAP and ECTR preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Generate design concepts, detailed drawings, and assemblies.
  • Calculate dimensions and tolerances for precision equipment.
  • Ensure designs meet stability, thermal control, and vibration criteria.
  • Review for manufacturability and maintain BOM/document revisions.
  • Support design reviews and risk assessments (FMEA).

You would:

  • Generate design concepts, designs, detail, and assembly drawings
  • Calculate appropriate dimensions and tolerances
  • Ensure designs meet requirements for precision, stability, thermal control, and vibration performance
  • Review and modify designs for efficient manufacturability
  • CAD & Bill of Materials creation and maintenance with SolidWorks, SAP, ECTR
  • Work within the requirements of internal product development processes
  • Ensure compliance with industry and safety standards (SEMI, ISO, etc.) and internal quality requirements
  • Participate in design reviews and risk assessments (FMEA)

You need:

  • Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering (or relevant technical degree)
  • Three or more years of design engineering of precision machinery, preferably in the semiconductor equipment industry
  • Fundamental knowledge of electro-mechanical systems
  • Knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes, and finishes
  • Thorough knowledge of geometric tolerancing (GD&T) and ISO standards
  • Proficient in the use of SolidWorks 3D CAD system
  • Experience with ERP and PLM systems for document, material, BOM and revisions-preferably SAP and ECTR
