Job summary

Edison Smart® in Livermore, CA is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to own the full development cycle of rugged defence hardware. You will design rugged hardware for defence applications, perform FEA analyses, support prototypes and testing, and iterate designs based on test results.

As part of a cross-disciplinary team, you will collaborate with electrical, manufacturing and systems engineering to ensure hardware operates in harsh environments. Eligible for Security Clearance is highly desirable.

Qualifications

• Experience designing rugged mechanical hardware in defence, aerospace or space.
• Practical FEA experience with the ability to complete your own analysis.
• Experience moving products through design, prototyping, testing and field validation.
• Broad mechanical engineering experience rather than a narrow specialty.

Mechanical Engineer – Rugged Defence Hardware

I'm working with an innovative engineering organisation developing next-generation rugged hardware for demanding defence applications. They're looking for a Mechanical Engineer who enjoys taking ownership of products from concept through to testing and real-world deployment.

This is a hands-on engineering role where you'll work across the full product lifecycle, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver hardware capable of operating in harsh environments.

What you'll be doing:

• Mechanical design of rugged hardware for defence applications
• Performing your own FEA analysis
• Supporting prototype builds and testing
• Iterating designs based on test results
• Working closely with electrical, manufacturing and systems engineering teams

What we're looking for:

• Experience designing rugged mechanical hardware within defence, aerospace or space
• Strong SolidWorks CAD capability
• Practical FEA experience with the ability to complete your own analysis
• Experience taking products through design, prototyping, testing and field validation
• Broad mechanical engineering experience rather than a narrow specialist background

Highly desirable:

• Defence ground vehicle experience
• Previous or active Security Clearance
• Experience with environmental qualification testing

Candidates must be eligible for Security Clearance.
