Job summary

bp’s Archaea Energy division seeks a Design Engineer to create 3D designs and detailed drawings for landfill gas to energy and RNG skid equipment using SolidWorks and AutoCAD. You will generate P&ID drawings, BOMs, and ensure compliance with piping design standards.

The role requires 3+ years of experience, strong CAD skills in Autodesk/AutoCAD and SolidWorks, and proficiency in GD&T. A self-motivated, detail‑oriented professional will thrive in a hybrid bp team environment.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in mechanical design and engineering.

Responsibilities

• Design responsibility of LFGTE and RNG BTU skid equipment using SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
• Create or revise accurate, detailed SolidWorks CAD models, drawings, P&ID drawings, BOMs, and other engineering documentation.
• Performs design calculations for pipe sizes; assist in procurement of mechanical equipment and instrumentation.
• Maintain knowledge of ASME Process Piping Design, Materials, Fabrication and Specifications.
• Keep up with latest codes, standards to ensure safety and reliability in designs.
• Ensure safety and long-term serviceability are top priorities in designs.
• Interpret design specifications and prepare project specifications.
• Prepare BOM, Instrumentation list & design specs.
• Collaborate with design team to meet equipment specifications and deadlines.
• Provide engineering support to operations in design and maintenance areas.
• Manage drawings/documentation control in PDM.

Archaea Energy, a bp company, is a leader in landfill gas to energy and the largest renewable natural gas (RNG) producer in the US. With big ambitions, we specialize in the development, construction and operation of RNG, landfill-gas-to-electric and dairy digester facilities. The team operates around 50 sites in 32 states with a robust development pipeline.

About The Role

The Design Engineer is responsible for 3D design and creation of technical drawings for landfill gas to energy facilities (LFGTE) and Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) skid equipment, compression packages as-built drawings, & modification drawings using SolidWorks and AutoCAD.

Key Accountabilities

• Design responsibility of LFGTE and RNG BTU skid equipment using SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
• Create or revise accurate, detailed SolidWorks CAD models, drawings, P&ID drawings, BOM’s, and other engineering documentation as required.
• Performs design calculations for pipe sizes. Assist in procurement of mechanical equipment and instrumentation to support operations.
• Maintains knowledge of the ASME Process Piping Design, Materials, Fabrication and Specifications leading to fabrication and assembly documents.
• Maintains current knowledge of the latest codes, standards and best practices to encourage Mechanical safety for personnel and equipment protection.
• Approaches designs with safety and long-term serviceability as top priorities.
• Responsible for proper interpretation of design specifications and drawings and preparation of project specification.
• Prepare BOM, Instrumentation list & design specs.
• Collaborate with design team to meet equipment specifications and deadlines.
• Provide engineering support to operations (LFGTE and RNG) in design and maintenance areas.
• Managing the drawings/documentation control in PDM.

Essential Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Associates Degree in Mechanical Design

Essential Experience

• 3+ years of experience
• Experience with Autodesk (or AutoCAD)
• Experience with SolidWorks
• Experience with MS Office Suite
• Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance, ANSI Y14.5.
• Thoroughness / attention to detail
• Requires the ability to be self-motivated and work independently as well as in multi-skilled team environment
• Must possess a valid driver’s license.
• Must pass background check and drug test.

Desirable criteria

• Experience with Bluebeam
• Experience with SolidWorks Routing
• Experience designing natural gas processing and treating equipment
• Experience creating technical manuals associated with equipment
• Experience working with Process Industry Practices (PIP)
• Experience with ASME, API, AISC, OSHA & ASTM standards

How much do we pay? $94,500 - $135,000. Note that the pay range listed for this position is a genuinely expected and reasonable estimate of the range of possible base compensation at the time of posting.

This position offers paid vacation depending on your years of relevant industry experience and will range from 120 – 240 hours of vacation per year for full times employees (60 - 240 hours of vacation per year for part time employees). You will also be eligible for 9 paid holidays per year and 2 personal choice holidays.
