Job description

Mechanical Engineer – HVAC & Hydronics | Cincinnati, OH

Comfort Systems USA Ohio is growing our Cincinnati team, and we’re looking for a knowledgeable, practical, and customer-focused Mechanical Engineer – HVAC & Hydronics to support our Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky, and surrounding metro area.

This role is ideal for a mechanical/HVAC engineering professional who enjoys being close to the work, partnering with sales and operations, and helping customers understand the best path forward for their mechanical systems.

As the Mechanical Engineer – HVAC & Hydronics, you will serve as the engineering expert in the room. You will partner closely with Sales, Project Managers, Estimators, Foremen, Supervisors, and field teams to evaluate customer needs, assess existing HVAC and hydronic systems, and develop practical engineered solutions for construction, retrofit, replacement, and design-build opportunities.

This is not a traditional engineering role where your work stays on paper. You will help shape customer solutions by providing technical guidance on:

  • Hydronic systems, including chilled water, hot water, and steam
  • Boilers, pumps, cooling towers, piping, and ventilation
  • System upgrades and replacements
  • Retrofit and design-build opportunities
  • Energy efficiency and performance improvements

This role is a strong fit for someone with experience in:

  • Mechanical engineering
  • Commercial or industrial HVAC systems
  • Hydronic system design or troubleshooting
  • Mechanical construction, retrofit, or design-build projects
  • MEP or mechanical contracting environments
  • Engineering support for sales, project, or field teams
What You’ll Do
  • Serve as a primary mechanical/HVAC engineering resource for the Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky market
  • Partner with Sales to evaluate customer needs and provide technical direction for proposed solutions
  • Review existing system conditions, drawings, equipment, and customer requirements
  • Develop practical, cost-effective engineered solutions for HVAC and hydronic systems
  • Support estimates, scopes of work, equipment selections, layouts, and proposal development
  • Collaborate with Project Managers and field leadership from concept through construction, startup, and closeout
  • Help customers understand technical options, system performance, lifecycle considerations, and long-term reliability
What We’re Looking For
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
  • Strong knowledge of commercial and industrial HVAC and hydronic systems
  • Experience with chilled water, hot water, steam, boilers, pumps, cooling towers, piping, and ventilation
  • Experience supporting mechanical construction, retrofit, design-build, or system improvement projects
  • Ability to assess existing systems and develop practical, field-aware solutions
  • Working knowledge of load calculations, equipment selection, system design, and applicable codes and standards
  • Strong communication, customer-facing, and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, Carrier HAP, Trace 3D Plus, or similar tools preferred
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future visa sponsorship
  • Must currently reside in, or be willing to relocate to, the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky metro area
Why Join Comfort Systems USA Ohio?
  • Competitive base salary based on experience and qualifications
  • Comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, and 401(k) with company contribution
  • Paid time off and company holidays
  • Company-provided tools and technology
  • Training, professional development, and continuing education opportunities
  • Opportunity to grow with a respected mechanical and building solutions organization backed by a strong national platform

If you’re a mechanical/HVAC engineer who enjoys solving real building challenges, working alongside sales and field teams, and seeing your work come to life, we’d love to connect.
