Qualifications

About the Role

The Mechanical Commissioning Engineer will be responsible for validating mechanical systems across hyperscale, enterprise, and colocation data center environments. You will work closely with design engineers, project managers, contractors, and end-users to test and verify HVAC, cooling, and automation systems to ensure they operate according to design intent and industry standards.

This role requires both field and remote coordination work and involves domestic travel to client sites.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and perform mechanical commissioning activities for data center projects from pre-functional testing through final turnover.
  • Oversee and execute field testing of HVAC systems including CRACs, chillers, pumps, CRAHs, cooling towers, and associated controls.
  • Develop and implement commissioning plans, scripts, and reports for mechanical systems.
  • Interface with design teams and contractors to review drawings, submittals, and startup procedures.
  • Identify and document system deficiencies and work closely with project teams to resolve issues.
  • Conduct functional performance testing and trend analysis of HVAC and controls systems.
  • Collaborate with electrical and controls commissioning teams to ensure cross-discipline integration.
  • Prepare detailed commissioning reports and contribute to project closeout documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with ASHRAE, NEBB, and other relevant commissioning standards.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • 3+ years of mechanical commissioning or HVAC field experience, preferably in data centers or mission-critical environments
  • Strong understanding of chilled water, DX, VRF/VRV, and economizer systems
  • Familiarity with building automation systems (BAS/BMS), control sequences, and trend data analysis
  • Working knowledge of industry standards such as ASHRAE, NEBB, ACG, and LEED commissioning protocols
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, specifications, and control schematics
  • Excellent troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills
  • Willingness to travel 30–50% to client sites across the US
  • PE, CxA, LEED AP, or other relevant certifications (preferred but not required)
