Surface Combustion is a world leader in designing, manufacturing, and marketing rugged and reliable thermal processing systems. These custom systems are assembled by hand in Waterville, Ohio. Although the position is not a typical maintenance role, those experienced in maintenance or custom machine assembly are encouraged to apply. Our equipment is assembled by hand based on the specific needs of the customer, without assembly lines or robotics.

Master the use of hand and power tools. Work may require extensive periods of standing, bending, stretching, lifting, and reaching.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Be proficient in wielding processes; read electrical prints & layouts, read piping prints (two‑lined & isometric), read mechanical prints, and understand suppliers’ instructions.
• Use initiative to fabricate and assemble products using drawings, sketches, and verbal direction.
• Be proficient in some forms of process and tack wielding; possess basic electrical skills including layout and mount conduit, pull & terminate wire; perform layout, cut & thread, and mount piping systems; set and align motors, pumps, and other mechanical components; and lay out, set, level & align furnace drive systems.
• Use overhead cranes and forklift trucks to set up and/or move equipment and assist in loading and unloading.
• Perform job‑site installations as part of a field team and as a team leader.
• Assist in training less skilled or less experienced mechanics as directed by plant management.
• Perform other duties and functions as required.
