Job description

Mechanical Assembler

Position Summary:

The Mechanical Assembler is responsible for assembling mechanical components and systems using engineering blueprints, diagrams, and specifications. The role involves working closely with other team members to connect components and construct large mechanical products.

Employment Type: Full Time - Hourly

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Perform assembly, fitting, filing, reaming, riveting, crimping, swaging, and adjusting operations.
  2. Operate a variety of light machine tools such as drill presses, arbor presses, air and hydraulic presses, simple die sets, and riveting machines.
  3. Trim and file parts to fit, verifying fitting tolerances with measuring instruments like gauges and calipers.
  4. Use micrometers, force gauges, calipers, torque wrenches, dial indicators, and other precision measuring tools.
  5. Collaborate with team members to layout, fabricate, assemble, and modify jet engine components, test articles, stands, and support systems.
  6. Operate tools to assemble jet engines or support utilities for testing.
  7. Assist in setting up test stands and preparing test articles per procedures.
  8. Ensure proper storage and transportation of test articles.
  9. Work with team members and supervisors as needed.
  10. Perform other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • At least three years of experience in mechanical assembly within a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency with wrenches, calipers, micrometers, air levels, drills, taps, hand grinders, and torque wrenches.
  • Experience operating cranes, forklifts, and scissor lifts.
  • Ability to interpret assembly drawings, schematics, and blueprints.
  • Knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
  • Ability to meet assembly tolerance requirements and select appropriate tools.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Experience working with large machinery.
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent; vocational/trade school certification preferred.
  • Dependable with willingness to work scheduled hours, including overtime and weekends.

Location & Compensation:

  • Rockford, IL
  • Pay range: $17.76 - $30.00 per hour
  • Benefits include health, dental, vision, life insurance, and a 401(k) match.
