Job summary

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Obtain parts for assembly and move to work area with crane and lift equipment.
  • Assemble structural and mechanical components according to specs and drawings.
  • Drill, ream, pin holes and fit components; check alignment and finish surfaces as required.
  • Test operation of assembled units and record dimensions on inspection sheets.
  • May assist in training new hires and follow EP instructions.

Position Summary And Purpose

Align, fit and install structural and component parts used in the pre‑erection and final erection of small to medium size mechanical and hydraulic product lines.

Essential
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Obtain parts for assembly, move to work area with remote operated crane using chains and lifters, set piece in area or stand
  • Align such pieces as housings, cross members, back gauges, squaring arms, slides, components or other parts as required on machine; insert pins, washers, spacers, etc.
  • Drill, ream, pin and tap holes, as required for assembly; file and grind surfaces for proper fit; remove burrs and chips before assembling
  • Lay out work for welder as required, lubricate assembled parts
  • Mount bolts, studs, blocks, connecting rods, guides, brackets, motors, brakes, flywheels, angle brackets, pumps, valves, gibs and ways, oil lines, back gauges, etc. for small to medium products; also mount electrical enclosures
  • Check fit, alignment, squareness, parallelism, and operation of moving parts, adjust as needed for proper clearance and function, record clearance as required
  • Test operation of small to medium size products after assembly noting specified dimensions as required on inspection sheets
  • May help train new hires
  • Follow written EP instructions and meet engineering specs to complete product
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area and perform all assignments in a safe manner and in accordance with established quality procedures
Work Experience
Required Experience: 1 to 2 years
  • 1–2 years previous mechanical hands‑on experience, preferably machine or sub‑assembly building
  • High degree of demonstrated mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to plan and perform non‑repetitive and complex work involving ingenuity and judgment
  • Able to read and interpret blueprints, drawings and schematics, and follow instructions
  • Excellent math skills and understanding of basic concepts
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area and perform all assignments in a safe manner and in accordance with established quality procedures
  • Demonstrated manual dexterity and accuracy
  • Basic PC skills and Windows knowledge
  • Knowledge of hydraulics
Tools, Technology & Equipment Used
  • Remote overhead crane, hydraulic hand press, hand operated drill press, surface and pedestal grinder; portable power tools such as hand grinders and impact wrenches; ordinary hand and precision measuring tools, power hacksaw, drills and reamers; blocks and bars, pip die set, ladder and/or scaffold; machinist’s hand tools, dial indicators, feeler gauge, forklift/hand truck
Education
Required Degree Level: High School
  • Associate degree or technical school certificate preferred

Physical Demands

This position is very active and requires frequent standing, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing of ladders. Must be able to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. frequently. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

The noise level in the work environment can be loud occasionally. This is a high‑travel position with significant overnight travel required.
