Job summary

Port Townsend Paper Corporation in Port Townsend, Washington, invites applicants to join its Mechanical Apprenticeship program. You will learn to install machinery, read blueprints, dismantle and relocate equipment, and support skilled trades across maintenance tasks on the Olympic Peninsula.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or GED.
• Ability to lift and carry 40 pounds and work in awkward positions.
• Basic welding, cutting, machining or metalworking skills are a plus.
• Willingness to work in a team and follow safety procedures.

Responsibilities

• Install machinery and equipment per layouts and drawings using hand tools and power tools.
• Read blueprints and schematics to determine procedures.
• Dismantle, move, assemble and align machines and equipment.
• Repair and lubricate machinery and perform routine maintenance.
• Install robot and modify its program with a teach pendant.
• Work as part of a skilled trades team to complete installation and maintenance.

The PositionWe currently have an opening for a Mechanical Apprenticeship based out of our location in Port Townsend, Washington.About Port Townsend Paper Corporation (PTPC)The Port Townsend Paper (“PTPC”) mill is proud to have been in continuous operation for more than 90 years. We use a blend of virgin and recycled fibers (Kraft and OCC pulp) to produce Kraft pulp, paper, containerboard, medium and market pulp. PTPC is proud to provide good, prevailing wage jobs on the Olympic Peninsula.Essential FunctionsInstalls machinery and equipment according to layout plans, blueprints, and other drawings in industrial establishment, using hoists, lift trucks, hand tools, and power tools.Reads blueprints and schematic drawings to determine work procedures.Dismantles machines, using hammers, wrenches, crowbars, and other hand tools.Moves machinery and equipment, using hoists, dollies, rollers, and trucks.Assembles and installs equipment, such as shafting, conveyors, and tram rails, using hand tools and power tools.Constructs foundation for machines, using hand tools and building materials, such as wood, cement, and steel.Aligns machines and equipment, using hoists, jacks, hand tools, squares, rules, micrometers, and plumb bobs.Assembles machines, and bolts, welds, rivets, or otherwise fastens them to the foundation or other structures, using hand tools and power tools.Operates engine lathe to grind, file, and turn machine parts to dimensional specifications.Repairs and lubricates machines and equipment.
