Qualifications

• Ability to inspect, maintain, and repair trucks and equipment effectively.
• Skill in using diagnostic tools and performing on-board diagnostics.
• Experience in overhauling gas and diesel engines.

Responsibilities

• Overhaul engines and diagnose mechanical issues.

SALARY: Up to $38.33/hr. ($33.08/hr. + $1.50/hr. night shift premium + up to $2.50/hr. for ASE certifications and + up to $1.25 for CDL license).

SUMMARY

The City of South Bend has immediate openings for skilled truck technicians. Performs skilled work in maintenance and repair of equipment and machinery and does related work as assigned. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This list represents the types of duties required by the position. Other duties may be assigned as reasonably expected.

• Inspect, repair, and maintain mechanisms within such City owned equipment as

automobiles, single and tandem axle trucks, street sweepers, loaders, backhoes,

graders, and other miscellaneous equipment.

• Overhaul gasoline and diesel engines, transmissions, differentials, and brakes.

• Diagnose electrical and fuel system problems and make necessary repairs.

• Design and fabricate specialized components as needed.

• Diagnose hydraulic system problems and make necessary repairs.

• Welding, minor painting and related fabrication.

• Maintain personal and City owned tools and equipment.

• Operate City owned vehicles and equipment.

• Ability to perform Onboard Computer Diagnostics using scan tools and laptop.

· Assume additional responsibilities as required. Keep work area clean daily.
