Job Location: Oscar Winski Metals Recycling - Lafayette, IN 47903, Position Type: Full Time, Job Category: Transportation, Principal Objective of Position:

The Mechanic Supervisor oversees the daily operations of the maintenance shop, including supervising and directing the work of Mechanics, while also conducting machine setup, troubleshooting, repairs, and preventive maintenance services as needed.

Essential Functions
  • Maintain preventative maintenance schedules on all Company vehicles
  • Evaluate equipment and determine whether to repair in-house or send it to an outside vendor for repair
  • Perform mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic system maintenance/repair on diesel and conventional engine and vehicular systems
  • Troubleshoot and determine necessary repairs
  • Assess repairs needed and determine who will perform the repairs
  • Disassemble, inspect, repair and/or replace components
  • Reassemble systems to specified tolerances
  • Perform scheduled A, B, & D preventative maintenance schedules
  • Inspect vehicles for safety
  • Perform “demand” type maintenance as needed
  • Perform inspection, diagnosis, and repair of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, suspensions, drive-train components, electrical, air conditioning, air brakes, computer diagnostics and basic welding
  • Supervise, schedule, and assign daily work tasks to Mechanics to ensure timely, safe, and quality completion of repairs and preventive maintenance
  • Train, mentor, and coach Mechanics on proper repair procedures, diagnostic techniques, safety protocols, and company policies
  • Monitor and enforce compliance with OSHA and other applicable safety regulations and Company policies within the shop
  • Review and approve Mechanics' timecards and work records
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide input on hiring, disciplinary actions, and other personnel decisions for Mechanics
Other Responsibilities
  • Ensure all road vehicles meet DOT specifications
  • Monitor fleet equipment to ensure they are updated regarding license plates, registrations, and DOT inspections
  • Purchase supplies and parts for equipment repairs and shop use
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
  • Must be flexible and willing to adapt
  • Must display the ability to problem solve
  • Can work independently and in a team environment
  • Self-motivated and takes responsibility for own work; can manage interruptions
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, with the ability to supervise, train, and motivate a team of Mechanics
Preferred Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent, preferred
  • Prior experience as a Mechanic, with at least 1-2 years in a lead or supervisory capacity, preferred
