Position Core Profile: Mechanic III is a senior-level technician role responsible for performing complex diagnostics, major repairs, and advanced welding and fabrication work across a diverse fleet of vehicles and landscaping equipment. This role independently handles high-skill mechanical and structural repairs, serves as a technical subject matter expert, and mentors other mechanics within the shop

Accountabilities:
- Advanced Maintenance & Repair: Complete complex repairs on gasoline and diesel trucks, trailers, and landscaping equipment (e.g., hydraulic systems, drivetrains, electrical systems, engine components); Perform advanced welding and fabrication, including frame repairs, reinforcement of structural components, custom brackets, mounts, equipment modifications, and trailer repairs; Lead troubleshooting of hard-to-diagnose issues using advanced diagnostic tools and manufacturer resources; Perform DOT-level inspections and ensure full compliance with regulatory standards.
- Diagnostics & Quality Control: Utilize scan tools and diagnostic software to isolate performance issues and system malfunctions; Confirm root causes and provide detailed repair recommendations; Conduct quality checks on repairs performed by other team members.
- Shop Operations & Leadership Support: Assist with scheduling work orders and allocating tasks across the mechanic team; Help maintain shop organization, parts inventory, and cleanliness; Support shop safety initiatives and enforce proper tool and PPE use.
- Training & Mentorship: Provide coaching and hands-on support to Mechanic I and II staff; Train team members on new equipment, procedures, and service documentation; Participate in the onboarding of new mechanics and help set performance expectations.
- Documentation & Systems: Accurately complete detailed work orders, inspection reports, and service documentation in fleet management software (e.g., Fleetio); Ensure consistency in digital records and adherence to process standards.

Experience and Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; Completion of a certified automotive or diesel technology program preferred.
- Experience: 5+ years of progressive hands-on mechanic experience; Experience with landscaping-specific fleet equipment (mowers, trailers, skid steers, etc.) strongly preferred.
- Licensing/Certification: Valid driver's license required; CDL preferred or willingness to obtain; industry certifications such as ASE, DOT brake inspections, or hydraulic systems preferred.
- Technical Proficiency: Expert-level mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic diagnostic skills; Proficient in use of diagnostic scan tools, schematics, and technical manuals; Strong computer skills for service documentation and diagnostic software

Working Conditions and Availability Disclosure:
- Work performed in a shop and yard environment with exposure to moving equipment, fluids, and outdoor elements; may involve occasional work outdoors or in variable weather conditions.
- Must be able to stand, bend, kneel, climb, and lift up to 50lbs regularly; frequent use of hand tools, lifting equipment, and diagnostic devices; require visual acuity and manual dexterity to inspect and service equipment.
- Primarily Monday through Friday with early morning, evening, or emergency response requirements, especially during peak seasons or urgent fleet issues.
- Occasional local travel to perform field service calls, equipment recovery, or vendor visits.
