Job summary

Knight Transportation is seeking an experienced maintenance technician to perform preventative inspections and repairs on company equipment including tractors and trailers. The role includes diagnosing complex issues, disassembling components, and guiding junior mechanics to ensure high-quality and timely maintenance.

The position requires 5+ years of related experience, a high school diploma or equivalent, and a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance on equipment to OEM/DOT/company specs.
  • Inspect, diagnose, and repair tractors, trailers, and support equipment.
  • Disassemble and repair heavy truck/trailer components (engine, transmissions, axles).
  • Assist shop personnel to foster a learning-focused environment.
  • Perform tire maintenance and analyze failures as needed.
  • May test drive equipment if certified.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  • Oversee assigned mechanics to ensure productivity and quality goals.

Job description

Pay Range: $27.69 - $38.07 Hourly

Job Responsibilities: What you will do

Complete a quality preventative maintenance inspection and repairs on all company owned equipment, to include tractors, trailers, refrigerated units and support equipment. May perform lead mechanic duties.

  • Perform preventative maintenance on all equipment to appropriate specifications (OEM, DOT, company, etc.).
  • Inspect, analyze, troubleshoot, diagnose and perform minor and/or complex repairs for all equipment.
  • Disassemble, repair and re-assemble of Heavy Truck and Trailer components; including but not limited to; refrigerated units, diesel engines, transmissions, axles and any other components or systems.
  • Assist any shop personnel as needed to create a cohesive and well-rounded shop environment centered around learning.
  • May perform tire maintenance to include repairs, failure analysis, coding and identification.
  • May be required to test drive equipment if certified.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  • May provide daily oversight to assigned mechanics to ensure productivity and quality goals are achieved.
  • May provide guidance to mechanics related to diagnostics and repair processes/procedures.
  • Proactively work to assist others in achieving the organization's objectives.
Qualifications: What you need to bring
  • 5+ years' related experience and/or training required.
  • High School or combination of training and/or experience required.
  • Drivers license required.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Demonstrated/proven superior customer service skills.
  • Ability to read and understand repair manuals, understanding and ability to complete/fill tags and repair orders.
  • Ability to use and learn various diagnostic software used on tractor/trailers.
  • Must possess excellent computer skills.
