Job summary

HKA Enterprises is seeking a Mechanic-in-Training to perform preventive and corrective maintenance on equipment at a wastewater treatment facility. You will inspect and maintain pumps, engines, generators, and vehicles, log maintenance activity, and support the broader maintenance team on an assigned shift.

Candidates with trade school training in electrical or mechanical systems are encouraged to apply. Pay is $20.00 to $21.00 per hour and the role involves both indoor and outdoor work with

Qualifications

  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Must live within 30 minutes of the facility.
  • Trade school education with emphasis on electrical/mechanical equipment preferred.
  • Knowledge of CMMS data entry and maintenance recordkeeping preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on vehicles, pumps, and related equipment.
  • Test auxiliary equipment such as alarms, HVAC systems, pumps, engines, and generators.
  • Lubricate equipment and replace filters as needed.
  • Read and record maintenance data in CMMS.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate maintenance records.
  • Communicate maintenance and repair procedures with the team.
  • Follow safety procedures and instructions.

Job description

Job Description We are seeking a Mechanic-in-Training to perform preventive and corrective maintenance on equipment at a wastewater treatment facility. This role is responsible for inspecting and maintaining pumps, engines, generators, and vehicles, logging maintenance activity, and supporting the broader maintenance team on an assigned shift. The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in an industrial environment. Candidates with trade school training in electrical or mechanical systems are highly encouraged to apply. Pay: $20.00 - $21.00 per hour

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on vehicles, pumps, and related equipment
  • Test auxiliary equipment such as alarms, HVAC systems, pumps, engines, and generators
  • Lubricate equipment and replace filters as needed
  • Read and record maintenance data in Maintenance Connection (CMMS)
  • Assist in maintaining accurate maintenance records
  • Communicate effectively with the team on recommended maintenance and repair procedures
  • Follow oral and written instructions and safety procedures
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
  • Valid driver's license
  • Must live within 30 minutes of the facility
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Trade school education with an emphasis on electrical and mechanical equipment
  • Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in maintaining engines, pumps, and mechanical systems
  • Understanding of internal combustion engines and electrical pump motors
  • Familiarity with safe work practices
  • Ability to enter and manage data in a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS)
Work Environment:

This position involves both indoor and outdoor work and may require exposure to varying weather conditions, loud noise, machinery, electrical equipment, confined spaces, heights, depths, fumes, airborne particles, and various chemicals. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is required in all hazardous areas. This position involves a substantial amount of safety-sensitive labor.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, squat, and reach throughout the workday
  • Ability to climb, navigate, and work throughout the facility, including confined spaces and elevated or below-grade areas
  • Ability to perform repetitive hand movements and operate tools/equipment safely
  • Ability to wear required safety equipment
