Job summary

Henderson Independent School District is seeking a skilled maintenance mechanic to perform minor and major mechanical repairs on district vehicles. You will diagnose issues, perform repairs, weld as needed, and follow preventive maintenance schedules.

Qualifications

• Two years of mechanic experience.
• Valid Texas commercial driver's license (Class B).
• Ability to diagnose mechanical problems and perform repairs under supervision.

Responsibilities

• Use diagnostic equipment to evaluate mechanical problems in vehicles.
• Perform major and minor mechanical repairs.
• Weld and perform minor body work.
• Service vehicles according to preventive maintenance schedule; rotate/balance tires; change oil and filters; lubricate parts; inspect/replace hoses, belts, mirrors, lamps; maintain fluid levels.
• Maintain accurate, updated records of preventive maintenance.
• Inspect vehicles and evaluate system condition; service as needed.
• Demonstrate preventive maintenance and inspections to mechanic helpers.
• Perform preventive maintenance, including bleeding of air tanks, on shop equipment per schedules.
• Operate tools and machinery safely; follow safety procedures including lifting and climbing.
• Report unsafe conditions to supervisor and keep shop in safe operating condition.
• Maintain time and materials records for repairs and service.

Qualifications

Education/Certification

Ability to operate equipment and tools involved in vehicle repair

Ability to lift heavy equipment and vehicle parts

Ability to pass alcohol and drug test

Ability to pass required bus driver safety training

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Maintenance and Repairs

• Use diagnostic equipment to evaluate mechanical problems in vehicles.
• Perform major/minor mechanical repairs.
• Do welding and minor body work.
• Service vehicles according to established preventive maintenance schedule. Rotate and balance tires; change oil and filters; lubricate vehicle parts; inspect and replace hoses, belts, mirrors, lamps; and maintain all fluid levels.
• Maintain accurate, updated records of preventive maintenance.
• Inspect vehicles and evaluate condition of systems, equipment, accessories, and lights; service as needed.
• Demonstrate process of preventive maintenance and visual inspections to mechanic helpers.
• Perform preventive maintenance, including bleeding of air tanks, on shop equipment according to established schedules.

Safety

• Operate tools, equipment, and machinery according to prescribed safety procedures.
• Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting, climbing, etc.
• Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.
• Help keep shop, equipment, and tools in safe operating condition.
