Job summary

St Mary’s Health Care System in Kentucky is seeking a Part-time Maintenance Technician to support second shift operations. You will perform routine preventive maintenance on building systems, assist senior mechanics, and respond to maintenance requests from clinical and non-clinical departments.

The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent, plus at least two years in a maintenance field; experience with electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and carpentry is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Ability to read blueprints, manuals, schematics.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine preventive maintenance on building systems and fixtures.
  • Respond to maintenance requests from clinical and non-clinical departments.
  • Assist senior mechanics with HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and medical systems repairs.
  • Conduct minor repairs such as changing light bulbs and patching surfaces.
  • Inspect equipment to identify safety hazards and needs.
  • Document all work in the maintenance system.
  • Follow safety protocols and PPE guidelines.
  • Support emergency response during outages or incidents.
  • Maintain tools and work areas in a clean, safe state.

Position Requirements :

The required shift schedule: This is a second shift position.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent; technical school or associate degree in HVAC/R or a related field preferred.

Experience: Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a maintenance field required

  • Basic knowledge of building systems (electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry).

  • Ability to use hand and power tools safely

  • Strong customer service skills when interacting with hospital staff

  • Ability to lift and move equipment up to typical maintenance standards

  • Willingness to work rotating shifts including weekends or on‑call as needed

Position Purpose to Demonstrate:

  • Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and electronic HVAC/R systems

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical manuals, schematics, and regulatory documents.

  • Strong problem‑solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently.

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills; ability to interact professionally with hospital staff, patients, and vendors.

  • Physical ability to lift heavy equipment, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces or adverse conditions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine preventive maintenance on building systems, equipment, and fixtures (lighting, doors, plumbing, HVAC filters, etc.).

  • Respond to basic maintenance requests from clinical and non‑clinical departments in a timely manner.

  • Assist senior mechanics with more complex repairs involving HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and medical support systems.

  • Conduct minor repairs such as replacing light bulbs, repairing wall fixtures, tightening hardware, and patching small surfaces.

  • Inspect equipment and facilities to identify potential safety hazards or maintenance needs.

  • Document all work performed in the hospital’s maintenance management system.

  • Follow hospital safety protocols, including infection control, PPE use, and regulatory compliance.

  • Support emergency response efforts such as power outages, equipment failures, or facility incidents.

  • Maintain tools and work areas in clean, safe, and organized conditions.
