Job summary

St Marys Health Care System is seeking a second shift Maintenance Technician to perform routine preventive maintenance on building systems, equipment, and fixtures within a hospital environment.

The candidate should have at least 2 years of maintenance experience, basic knowledge of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and carpentry, and the ability to read blueprints and manuals. Rotating shifts, weekends, and on-call may be required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; technical school or associate degree in HVAC/R or related field preferred.
• Minimum of two (2) years of maintenance experience.
• Basic knowledge of building systems (electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry).
• Ability to lift/move equipment per maintenance standards.
• Willingness to work rotating shifts including weekends or on-call.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine preventive maintenance on building systems, equipment, and fixtures.
• Respond to basic maintenance requests from departments.
• Assist senior mechanics with repairs involving HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and medical support systems.
• Conduct minor repairs such as replacing bulbs, fixtures, tightening hardware, patching surfaces.
• Inspect equipment and facilities for safety hazards or maintenance needs.
• Document all work in the hospital's maintenance management system.
• Follow hospital safety protocols and regulatory compliance.
• Support emergency response efforts.

• Ability to use hand and power tools safely
• Strong customer service skills when interacting with hospital staff
• Ability to lift and move equipment up to typical maintenance standards
• Willingness to work rotating shifts including weekends or on-call as needed

Position Purpose To Demonstrate

• Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and electronic HVAC/R systems
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical manuals, schematics, and regulatory documents.
• Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills; ability to interact professionally with hospital staff, patients, and vendors.
• Physical ability to lift heavy equipment, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces or adverse conditions.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform routine preventive maintenance on building systems, equipment, and fixtures (lighting, doors, plumbing, HVAC filters, etc.).
• Respond to basic maintenance requests from clinical and non-clinical departments in a timely manner.
• Assist senior mechanics with more complex repairs involving HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and medical support systems.
• Conduct minor repairs such as replacing light bulbs, repairing wall fixtures, tightening hardware, and patching small surfaces.
• Inspect equipment and facilities to identify potential safety hazards or maintenance needs.
• Document all work performed in the hospital's maintenance management system.
• Follow hospital safety protocols, including infection control, PPE use, and regulatory compliance.
• Support emergency response efforts such as power outages, equipment failures, or facility incidents.
• Maintain tools and work areas in clean, safe, and organized conditions.
