Mechanic I

FLSA: Non Exempt

Reports To: Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor

Physical Requirements: Standing, walking, bending and heavy lifting-able to lift 60 pounds

Hours of Work: 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. daily – 40 hours per week

Pay Range: The pay range is $18.91 to $26.38

Job Summary: The Mechanic I position shall maintain agency vehicles in good working condition and meet all applicable safety requirements for DOT, Federal, State and Local authorities.

Job Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Three years automotive repair experience in a service shop of a dealership or auto repair shop required.
• Valid NYS drivers license required. Class B CDL license-19A qualified preferred or willingness to obtain within 6 months of employment.
• NYS inspection certificate or willingness to obtain within 6 months of employment required.

Major Responsibilities:

• Perform satisfactory inspection, maintenance and repair of vehicles as assigned by work orders.
• Complete appropriate logs, records and safety inspections as required.
• Submit purchasing bill to supervisor weekly and by end of month closeout.
• Submit completed work orders weekly to supervisor and complete end of month
• Serve as a backup bus driver as needed. Maintain and monitor shop safety. Report any safety issues to supervisor immediately.
• Schedule vehicle lifts for safety inspections every six months.
• Follow safe operating procedures with regard to use of tools of the trade. This includes the use of knives and cutting devices in the course of work. This position is exempt from the knives restriction as outlined in the Workplace Violence Prevention Policy as knives are considered tools of the trade.
