Job summary

Interstate Waste Services in the New York metro area is seeking a Mechanic Helper to perform inspections and maintenance on fleet vehicles and equipment, including electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake and air systems, under the Maintenance Team.

You will document repairs in our fleet software, assist with service calls for breakdowns, and help maintain a clean, safe work area. Bilingual Spanish preferred; strong communication and time-management skills required; overtime may be needed.

Qualifications

• Proficient in Microsoft Office; Excel is preferred.
• Bilingual in Spanish preferred; read, write and speak.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Performs PMI inspection and repairs on vehicles and equipment.
• Documents repairs, parts usage and repair times in fleet software.
• Assists in repair and adjustment of equipment.
• Washes vehicles and equipment; conducts safety checks; supports breakdown service calls.

Essential Job Summary:

Our Mechanic Helper performs inspection, works on electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake and air systems on vehicles and equipment, with a Maintenance Team Member. They help perform preventive maintenance inspection (PMI); troubleshoots, repairs, and rebuilds major components on vehicles and equipment. Ensures accurate diagnosis and effective repair and/or replacement of components. Additional responsibilities include:

• Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
• Completes required paperwork utilizing fleet maintenance software program associated with repairing vehicles, documenting parts usage, and accounting for repair times.
• Assists in the repair and adjustment of equipment.

• Washes vehicles and equipment.
• Conducts safety checks on vehicles.
• Assists with service calls for breakdowns.
• Perform other maintenance related work as required.
• Maintain a clean, safe work area in compliance with Corporate / OSHA Standards.

• Bilingual preferred; able to read, write, and speak Spanish proficiently
• Must have very good interpersonal and communication skills
• Good at multi-tasking and can work effectively with other team members
• Ability to manage time effectively and work in a fast paced and changing environment.
• Able to work overtime as needed
