Job summary

Interstate Waste Services, Inc. in the greater New York, New Jersey and Connecticut markets is hiring a Diesel Mechanic to inspect, diagnose and repair electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake and air systems on diesel trucks and equipment.

You will perform preventive maintenance, document repairs and parts usage, and support service calls while upholding strict safety standards in a fast-paced waste services environment.

Qualifications

  • 3-5+ years' experience as class A or B mechanic.
  • Proficient with diesel engine diagnoses and repairs.
  • Experience in waste management or heavy equipment is a plus.
  • Experience with safety procedures and practices.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, diagnose, and repair electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake and air systems on vehicles and equipment.
  • Perform preventive maintenance inspections and repairs.
  • Document parts usage and repair times using fleet software.
  • Assist with service calls for breakdowns and maintain a clean, safe work area.

Essential Job Summary

Our Diesel Mechanics perform inspection, diagnosis and repair of electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake and air systems on vehicles and equipment, including diesel heavy trucks and engines. Performs preventive maintenance inspection (PMI); troubleshoots, repairs, and rebuilds major components on vehicles and equipment.Ensures accurate diagnosis and effective repair and/or replacement of components.Additional responsibilities include:

Essential Job Functions: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned.
  • Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
  • Completes required paperwork utilizing fleet maintenance software program associated with repairing vehicles, documenting parts usage, and accounting for repair times.
  • Assists in the repair and adjustment of equipment.
  • Washes vehicles and equipment.
  • Conducts safety checks on vehicles.
  • Assists with service calls for breakdowns.
  • Perform other maintenance related work as required.
  • Maintain a clean, safe work area in compliance with Corporate / OSHA Standards.
Requirements And Qualifications
  • 3-5+ years’ experience as class A or B mechanic
  • Computer diagnostic experience is required
  • Prior experience from waste management industry or heavy equipment/yellow iron dealership experience is a plus
  • Trade school or similar training is a plus
  • Knowledge of safety procedures and practices
