Job summary

Sunway Charters in Charlotte, NC is seeking a Mechanic to maintain and repair our fleet, diagnosing issues, performing preventive maintenance, and servicing diesel and gasoline systems to keep operations safe and reliable.

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, you must have at least 5 years of medium/heavy fleet experience, own tools, and reside in NC with a valid CDL preferred; ASE Master Truck Technician and EPA certifications are a plus.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in medium/heavy fleet repair.
• Experience diagnosing diesel and gasoline systems.
• ASE Master Truck Technician and EPA 608/609 preferred.
• Must possess own tools and ability to lift up to 100 lbs.
• Valid NC driver’s license; pass DOT pre-employment tests.

Mechanic - Charlotte, NC | Charlotte, NC

The Mechanic is responsible for performing skilled maintenance and repair work on Sunway Charters' fleet of vehicles to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations. Reporting directly to the Maintenance Manager, this role involves diagnosing issues, completing preventive maintenance, and repairing major vehicle systems. The Mechanic plays a critical role in upholding safety standards, maintaining compliance with federal and state requirements, and supporting the overall operational goals of the maintenance department.

Key Responsibilities

Vehicle Maintenance & Repair

• Inspect, adjust, repair, replace, and service vehicle systems and components as needed.


• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, air brake, and AC issues, completing necessary repairs.


• Verify vehicle performance through test drives and system checks.


• Perform preventive maintenance to ensure reliability and reduce downtime.


• Maintain accurate service records, including inspections, repairs, and preventive work.


• Comply with all federal and state vehicle safety, emissions, and combustion control standards.


• Service and repair AC systems as required.

Shop Operations & Compliance

• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized shop environment.


• Keep shop equipment in good working condition by performing preventive maintenance and troubleshooting breakdowns.


• Complete all required paperwork for jobs in an accurate and timely manner.


• Follow safety protocols and company policies to ensure a safe working environment.


• Support other shop and operational duties as assigned by the Maintenance Manager or management.

Technical & Physical Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in medium/heavy fleet mechanic repair.


• Strong technical knowledge of diesel and gasoline systems, including diagnostics, electrical, air brake, and AC systems.


• ASE Master Truck Technician and EPA 608/609 certifications preferred.


• Must possess own tools.


• Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 100 lbs. safely.


• Must be able to climb, balance, reach, bend, squat, crouch, kneel, stoop, crawl, stand, sit, and walk as required to perform job duties.


• Valid NC driver's license with a clean driving record.


• Must pass DOT pre-employment physical, drug screen, and background check.


• Must possess or be willing to obtain a Class B CDL.
