Job summary

American Boring INC in Carroll, OH is seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment & Fleet Mechanic to diagnose, repair, and maintain tractors, trailers, construction equipment, hydraulics, and diesel engines.

You will perform preventative maintenance, troubleshoot systems, fabricate parts with welding, and keep accurate records while working hybrid between shop and job sites.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Mechanic or Heavy Equipment Mechanic.
• Strong knowledge of hydraulics, diesel engines, and braking systems.
• Experience with welding and fabrication.
• Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical issues efficiently.
• Valid Driver’s License preferred.
• CDL License preferred.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair mechanical issues on heavy equipment, trucks, trailers, and construction machinery.
• Perform preventative maintenance and routine service inspections.
• Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic systems, air brake systems, electrical components, and diesel engines.
• Conduct repairs on tractor-trailers and other fleet vehicles.
• Fabricate and modify parts as needed using welding and fabrication equipment.
• Safely operate heavy equipment during inspections and repairs.
• Utilize hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment effectively.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance, repairs, inspections, and parts usage.
• Work closely with operators and management to minimize equipment downtime.
• Ensure all work is completed in compliance with company safety standards and OSHA regulations.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.

Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled and dependable Heavy Equipment & Fleet Mechanic to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a variety of vehicles and heavy equipment, including tractor-trailers, construction equipment, hydraulic systems, and diesel-powered machinery. This role requires strong mechanical knowledge, troubleshooting abilities, and experience using hand tools and welding equipment.

The Mechanic plays a critical role in maintaining the safety, reliability, and efficiency of our fleet and equipment operations.

• Experience working on heavy equipment, trailers, and construction machinery preferred
• Proficiency with hand tools, diagnostic equipment, and welding/fabrication tools
• Ability to troubleshoot and repair mechanical issues efficiently
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Strong communication and organizational skills
• Valid Driver’s License preferred
• CDL License preferred
• Mechanical certifications are a plus
