Blackjack Horticulture in Birmingham, AL is seeking a Mechanic Assistant to support our shop and fleet maintenance. You will work with the lead mechanic to keep trucks, trailers, mowers, and landscape equipment in safe, reliable condition.

Qualifications

• Basic mechanical knowledge or prior experience with small engines or equipment.
• Willingness to learn and take direction from experienced mechanics.
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in a shop and outdoor environment.
• Valid driver's license.
• Reliable, punctual, and team-oriented.

Responsibilities

• Assist with maintenance and repairs on trucks, trailers, mowers, and landscape equipment.
• Perform oil changes, filter replacements, tire checks, and basic maintenance.
• Help diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues.
• Keep the shop organized, clean, and safe.
• Maintain maintenance logs and parts inventory.
• Assist with pickup/delivery of parts, equipment, or vehicles as needed.
• Support the lead mechanic on larger repairs and projects.
• Follow safety protocols when using tools, and working with vehicles.

About the Role

As a Mechanic Assistant, you'll work alongside our lead mechanic to keep trucks, trailers, mowers, and landscape equipment in safe, reliable working condition. This is a great opportunity for someone mechanically inclined who wants to build hands-on experience and grow their skills in fleet and equipment maintenance.

What You'll Do

• Assist with routine maintenance and repairs on trucks, trailers, mowers, and landscape equipment
