Job description

Position Summary

As the Mechanic, you will work on-site and report to the office in Anchorage, which will include travel and possible month‑long rotational work to remote sites in the Pacific Rim, Alaska, and the 48 contiguous U.S. states.

Responsibilities

Perform diagnosis, repairs, and maintenance of company equipment and vehicles. Maintain maintenance logs, research parts, and communicate repair and parts needs to the Field Equipment Manager.

  • Follow all safety procedures and identify/report hazards.
  • Repair heavy equipment including heavy‑duty trucks, semi‑tractors, excavators, high‑pressure hydraulics, bulldozers, graders, trailers, backhoes, skid steers, tractors, hydrovac trucks, street sweepers, aerial towers, and man lifts.
  • Inspect equipment to identify repairs or maintenance needed and document inspections on repair orders.
  • Weld and fabricate during equipment repair as needed.
  • Accurately research parts needed for repairs.
  • Maintain excellent communication with Field Equipment Manager and Site Supervisors to prioritize equipment fleet needs.
  • Provide recommendations and efficiencies for repairs and/or shop needs.
  • Properly wear, use, and maintain personal respirator equipment and other PPE on HAZWOPER or other sites as needed.
  • Report incidents immediately to direct supervisor per reporting procedures.
  • Maintain a safe and clean job site and shop to prevent hazards and reduce personal exposure to contaminants.
  • Store hazardous materials properly and maintain HAZMAT inventory and MSDS records.
  • Operate equipment for project needs, travel to remote environmental or construction sites as directed, and work in all weather conditions.
  • Perform other duties as directed.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Operate motorized vehicles and equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Read technical manuals, drawings, and repair manuals.
  • Purchase company needed materials and parts as required.
  • Communicate effectively to establish interpersonal relationships and handle various situations.
  • Work as a team player with exceptional time‑management skills.
  • Strong knowledge of operations, repairs, and maintenance of heavy‑duty equipment and vehicles.
  • Proficiency in welding and fabricating practices.
  • Use diagnostic scanners and electronic tools effectively.
  • Familiarity with hazardous waste regulations.
  • Use a computer or laptop and standard business software applications.
  • Detail‑oriented with strong organizational, follow‑up, and record‑maintaining skills.
  • Write routine reports and correspondences.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • One to seven years of experience as a mechanic.
  • Troubleshooting and repair experience with powertrain, hydraulic, air, and electrical systems.
  • Ability to obtain security clearances for military installation job sites.
  • Pass drug, driving, and background screenings.
  • Valid state driver’s license and qualification to operate a vehicle per company driving policy.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in environmental or construction industries.
  • OSHA 30‑hour certification.
  • HAZWOPER certification.
  • Welding certifications.
  • Class A CDL.
Supervisory Responsibilities

This role does not have any supervisory responsibilities.
