Job summary

Meigs Transport, part of the Asphalt Materials family, is seeking a skilled Mechanic to inspect, diagnose, maintain, and repair class 8 trucks and related equipment. You will work closely with the shop team to keep vehicles safe and productive in demanding construction settings.

Strong mechanical aptitude, diesel tech knowledge, and the ability to communicate clearly for safe repairs are essential. Expect long shifts outdoors and in garage environments, with exposure to noise and heavy equipment

Qualifications

  • High School or equivalent is required.
  • Associate's Degree or technical certificate in automotive or diesel technology, maintenance or repair.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and repair class 8 trucks and related equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical issues to keep fleet safe and productive.
  • Inspect equipment and report issues to shop management.
  • Communicate effectively to ensure efficient repairs at the shop.
  • Work with the team on ongoing improvements and maintenance priorities.

# **Build Your Career at Meigs Transport!** The Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing company vehicles and equipment. This role requires knowledge of diesel engines, fuel systems, electrical systems, and various mechanical components to ensure that vehicles and equipment function effectively and safely. **Essential Functions*** Maintain fleet of trucks* Diagnosing and repairing class 8 trucks (heavy duty)* Ability to communicate effectively to ensure efficient repairs are made* Evaluate truck performance* Inspect equipment* Report mechanical issues and problems to shop manager* *Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned, including but not limited to continuously growing in alignment with the Company’s core values, competencies, and skills.* **Education Qualifications*** High School or Equivalent is required* Associate's Degree or technical certificate in automotive or diesel technology, maintenance or repair **Experience Qualifications*** Prior experience in heavy highway construction is preferred* 3-5 years experience working on Class 8 Trucks is preferred **Skills and Abilities*** Accountability* Communication* Decision Making/Decision Quality* Ethics/Integrity* Instills Trust **Working Conditions/Physical Demands*** The work environment described here is representative of those that experienced by an employee performing the essential functions of this job* Continuous exposure to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites, including heights, moving vehicles, stopped traffic* Outdoor conditions that include inclement weather, precipitation, heat, humidity, dust, asphalt and/or concrete, dirt* Indoor garage conditions that include regular exposure to noise, including horns, mechanical equipment, heavy equipment, moving mechanical parts, vibration, fumes and airborne particles* Lifts, pushes, pulls, pours or carries heavy objects, loads of material* Walks and stands for long periods of time* Bends, stoops, squats, reaches to move materials* Climbs in, out and under equipment; lays or stands under equipment* Uses abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue* Uses good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination, with the ability to quickly move arms and legs.* Possess excellent stamina to work between 8-12 hours per day**About Meigs Transport**Meigs Transport is a member of the Asphalt Materials Inc. family of businesses.
