Job Summary

The Mechanic diagnoses and repairs diesel tractors, trailers, and other wheeled vehicles.

Job Responsibilities

• Examine and diagnose vehicle problems, perform repairs according to accepted methods.
• Discuss extensive or complex repairs with Terminal Manager or Supervisor.
• Enforce CEMEX safety policies and regulations among mechanics (e.g., lockout/tagout, hazard assessment).
• Ensure shop and repairs comply with OSHA regulations.
• Perform routine scheduled maintenance as per PM checklists.
• Plan work procedures.
• Raise vehicles using hydraulic jacks or hoists for access.
• Remove components for repair or replacement (e.g., alternators, starters, water pumps, etc.).
• Disassemble, inspect, and determine causes of failure.
• Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic and electrical systems.
• Replace and adjust headlights, install accessories, and perform welding as needed.
• Enter work orders for inventory and maintenance tracking.
• Adhere to all safety and regulatory requirements at all times.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of 3 years related experience, training, or an equivalent combination.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Ability to understand, interpret, and execute instructions precisely.
• Bi-lingual Spanish is a plus.
• Recognize hazards and follow safety instructions.
• Valid Driver's License; Class A or B CDL preferred or obtainable within 180 days.
• Forklift certification or willingness to obtain.
• TWIC card preferred or willingness to obtain.

Working Conditions

• Sitting most of the time, with walking or standing as needed.

Physical Requirements

• Walking, sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling, climbing.
• Occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force.
• Communication via talking and hearing.
