Job summary

Priority Waste is looking for a skilled Heavy Duty Machinery Mechanic in Michigan to maintain and repair refuse trucks and heavy equipment. You will diagnose diesel engines, hydraulics, brakes, and electrical systems, perform preventive and corrective maintenance, and ensure equipment uptime.

The ideal candidate has at least two years of diesel technician experience, a CDL is a plus, ASE certifications are a plus, and willingness to work 1st or 2nd shift.

Qualifications

• Minimum of two (2) years of experience as a heavy-duty diesel technician or mechanic.
• CDL is a plus, but not required.
• ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certifications are a plus, but not required.
• Must be willing and available to work either 1st or 2nd shift, based on business and staffing needs.

Responsibilities

• Performs preventive, routine, and corrective maintenance on heavy-duty diesel vehicles and refuse collection equipment.
• Diagnoses, repairs, and maintains diesel engines and related components.
• Troubleshoots and repairs hydraulic systems, including refuse body/compactor systems and PTO components.
• Uses electronic diagnostic tools and scan equipment to identify and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, emissions, and engine-related issues.
• Performs electrical system diagnostics and repairs.
• Performs welding, fabrication, and general repairs as needed.
• Maintains a clean, organized, and safe work area and follows all company safety procedures and applicable regulations.

Our biggest priority is providing outstanding customer service & revolutionizing the industry through the use of the latest technology.Job PurposeIn your role as a Heavy Duty Machinery Mechanic, you will perform repairs and maintenance on refuse vehicles and heavy machinery including, but not limited to: vehicle refuse bodies and control systems, air brake systems, suspension, steering, suspension, hydraulics, electrical, general engine work, HVAC components, drivetrain, and chassis components.Duties and ResponsibilitiesDuties include but are not limited to:Performs preventive, routine, and corrective maintenance on heavy-duty diesel vehicles and refuse collection equipment.Diagnoses, repairs, and maintains diesel engines and related components.Troubleshoots and repairs hydraulic systems, including refuse body/compactor systems and PTO components.Uses electronic diagnostic tools and scan equipment to identify and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, emissions, and engine-related issues.Performs electrical system diagnostics and repairs.Performs welding, fabrication, and general repairs as needed.Performs maintenance and repairs on brakes, suspension, steering, drivetrain, and other vehicle systems.Completes oil changes, fluid services, greasing, and other routine preventative maintenance.Performs tire inspections, repairs, and replacements as necessary.Assists with DOT inspections and ensures vehicles are properly maintained and prepared for inspection.Troubleshoots and repairs emissions-related issues and after-treatment systems.Performs preventative maintenance and timely repairs to minimize vehicle and equipment downtime.Responds to road service calls and safely performs necessary repairs to return equipment to service when appropriate.Actively diagnoses problems and identifies solutions to minimize equipment downtime and operational disruptions.Completes maintenance work orders accurately and submits documentation to the Maintenance Supervisor for company records.Maintains a clean, organized, and safe work area and follows all company safety procedures and applicable regulations.Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.The successful candidate profile includes:Minimum of two (2) years of experience as a heavy-duty diesel technician or mechanic.Experience performing maintenance and repairs on refuse trucks, heavy-duty vehicles, and/or heavy equipment.Ability to perform basic inspections, diagnostics, and repairs involving brakes, drivetrain, emissions systems, hydraulics, transmissions, engines, steering, and suspension systems.Ability to understand, complete, and accurately document work orders and labor time standards.Strong mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is a plus, but not required.ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certifications are a plus, but not required.Must be willing and available to work either 1st or 2nd shift, based on business and staffing needs.Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with the maintenance team.Commitment to safe work practices and maintaining equipment in a safe, reliable, and compliant condition.At Priority Waste, there are fundamental qualities that we look for in all our employees:People who excel in a collaborative environment (team players)A willingness to do whatever the situation calls forAn excitement to be part of a growing organizationA genuine understanding that the quality of your work has a direct impact on the company’s success
