Job summary

City of Garland is seeking a Fleet Mechanic to keep our city vehicles in top condition. The role covers preventative maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, parts ordering, and maintaining the Fleet Shop in a clean, organized state.

The candidate should have a high school diploma or GED with 2 years of related experience, own basic tools, and the ability to obtain 1 ASE certification within one year of hire.

Qualifications

  • Must own basic hand and air tools.
  • Equivalent education/experience considered.

Job description

Summary

Responsible for repairing and maintaining the operation of all City vehicles.

Pay Range: $16.50 - $20.50(Depending on qualifications and experience)

Work Schedule: B shift 9AM to 6PM

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Perform preventative maintenance on city vehicles.
  • Diagnose and repair city vehicles.
  • Order necessary parts as needed.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly Fleet Shop.
  • Complete work labor and task information.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)
  • 2 years related experience
  • Must own basic hand and air tools

Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

Preferred Qualifications

Education/ Experience:

  • 6 months to 1 year advanced training in automotive mechanics
  • 2-4 years experience in automotive shop repair and diagnosis
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • General knowledge of automotive repair and diagnostics
  • General knowledge of Fleet software processes
  • Skill in utilizing Shop Key software
  • Skill in performing preventative maintenance on vehicles
Licenses and Certifications

Must obtain 1 ASE Certification within one year of hire Valid Class A Commercial Texas driver's license or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire
