Job description

Description

This position is responsible for participating in the mechanical repair and maintenance of city vehicles and equipment.

  • Troubleshoots and diagnoses malfunctions in a variety of vehicles, equipment, and trucks.
  • Performs corrective maintenance on heavy equipment and trucks, including diesel engines.
  • Repairs brake, HVAC, transmission, electrical, steering, exhaust, instrumentation, and other system repairs.
  • Performs field repairs as needed.
  • Repairs or replaces tires.
  • Acquires parts and equipment needed for the successful repair and maintenance of equipment.
  • Installs prisoner cages in law enforcement vehicles.
  • Maintains a clean and safe work environment.
  • Completes required reports and maintains vehicle and equipment maintenance records.
  • Performs related duties.
Requirements
  • Knowledge of the methods, tools, and equipment utilized in the repair and maintenance of a wide variety of vehicles and equipment.
  • Knowledge of department and city policies and procedures, and relevant federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • Knowledge of oils and lubricants needed for different makes of equipment.
  • Knowledge of small engine equipment repairs.
  • Knowledge of diesel and heavy equipment maintenance and repair principles.
  • Knowledge of work safety principles.
  • Skill in cutting and reshaping metals in the fabrication of parts.
  • Skill in the operation of hydraulic and electrical test equipment.
  • Skill in the safe operation of tire equipment.
  • Skill in the operation of a variety of vehicles and equipment.
  • Skill in problem-solving.
  • Skill in prioritizing and planning.
