Job summary

City of Garland is seeking a skilled automotive technician to repair and maintain the operation of all City vehicles. The role requires performing preventative maintenance, diagnosing issues, and ordering parts as needed in a busy Fleet Shop environment.

Applicants should have a high school diploma or GED, 2 years related experience, and own basic hand and air tools. ASE certification within a year and a Class A CDL within 6 months are preferred.

Summary

Responsible for repairing and maintaining the operation of all City vehicles.

Pay Range

$16.50 - $20.50 (Depending on qualifications and experience)

Work Schedule

B shift 9AM to 6PM

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform preventative maintenance on city vehicles.
  • Diagnose and repair city vehicles.
  • Order necessary parts as needed.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly Fleet Shop.
  • Complete work labor and task information.

Other duties may be assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)
  • 2 years related experience
  • Must own basic hand and air tools
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Education/ Experience: 6 months to 1 year advanced training in automotive mechanics
  • 2-4 years experience in automotive shop repair and diagnosis
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • General knowledge of automotive repair and diagnostics
  • General knowledge of Fleet software processes
  • Skill in utilizing Shop Key software
  • Skill in performing preventative maintenance on vehicles
Licenses and Certifications
  • Must obtain 1 ASE Certification within one year of hire
  • Valid Class A Commercial Texas driver's license or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire
