Job summary

TMS International is seeking a skilled Diesel Mechanic in Flowood, MS. You will maintain, repair, and troubleshoot off-road heavy diesel equipment used in our industrial operations.

The role requires rotating 8–12 hour swing shifts, including days and nights, and overtime as needed, with hourly pay between $28 and $31 depending on experience. Responsibilities include routine maintenance, inspections, diagnostics, and safety compliance.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of diesel mechanics experience, preferably in industrial/manufacturing environments.
• Experience with heavy equipment used in steel mills is a plus.
• Ability to lift heavy objects and work in confined spaces; willingness to work rotating day/night shifts.

Responsibilities

• Maintenance and Repair: Perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of diesel engines and related systems in trucks, loaders, and forklifts.
• Inspection: Conduct regular inspections to identify issues and ensure safety compliance and manufacturer specs.
• Diagnostics: Use diagnostic tools to identify problems and implement effective solutions for reliability and performance.
• Record Keeping: Maintain accurate maintenance records, parts used and labor hours; report needs to management.
• Collaboration: Coordinate repairs with other maintenance staff to minimize downtime and provide guidance to less-experienced teammates.
• Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols and participate in safety training.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Diesel Mechanic to join our team in Flowood, MS. This position is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of off-road heavy diesel equipment used in our operations.

Schedule: Rotating 8-12 hour swing shift (Days to Nights / Nights to Days)

Pay: $28.00 - $31.00 per hour DOE

Candidates must be willing and able to work rotating day and night shifts, including weekends, holidays, and overtime as operational needs require.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintenance and Repair: Perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of diesel engines and related systems, including hydraulic and pneumatic systems, in various types of equipment such as trucks, loaders, and forklifts.
• Inspection: Conduct regular inspections to identify and address potential issues before they result in equipment failure. Ensure compliance with safety regulations and manufacturer specifications.
• Diagnostics: Utilize diagnostic tools and techniques to identify problems with diesel engines and other mechanical systems. Develop and implement effective solutions to ensure equipment reliability and performance.
• Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair activities, including parts used and labor hours. Report any additional maintenance needs or issues to management.
• Collaboration: Work closely with other maintenance staff and departments to coordinate repairs and minimize downtime. Provide technical support and guidance to less experienced team members as needed.
• Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment. Participate in safety training and contribute to the development of safety initiatives.

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Technical certification in Diesel Mechanics or related field preferred.
• Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in diesel mechanics, preferably in an industrial or manufacturing environment. Experience with heavy equipment used in steel mills is a plus.
• Skills: Strong diagnostic skills and proficiency in using diagnostic tools and equipment. Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics. Familiarity with hydraulic and pneumatic systems is desirable.
• Physical Requirements: Ability to lift heavy objects, work in confined spaces, and operate various tools and equipment. Willingness to work in varying environmental conditions typical of a steel mill.
• Must have and maintain personal tools and toolbox required to perform job duties.
• Must have reliable transportation.
• Must be able to successfully complete pre-employment and random drug and alcohol testing.
