Job summary

TMS International is seeking a Heavy Equipment / Diesel Mechanic at the Cayce, SC location. You will maintain, repair, inspect and troubleshoot diesel-powered machinery used in our operations, ensuring reliability and safety.

Expect to work on diesel engines, hydraulic and electrical systems in an industrial environment. Responsibilities include routine maintenance, diagnostics, and small- to mid-scale repairs, with emphasis on quality, safety, and downtime minimization.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 3 years of diesel/heavy equipment mechanic experience in industrial settings.
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical and pneumatic systems.
  • Proficiency with diagnostic tools and equipment.
  • Ability to read manuals, schematics, and technical drawings.
  • Own basic tools and pass pre-employment drug screen and background check.
  • Technical certification or apprenticeship preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance and inspections on heavy equipment to identify potential issues.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic problems and propose solutions.
  • Repair diesel engines and related systems on loaders, forklifts, trucks and heavy equipment.

Heavy Equipment / Diesel Mechanic

$25.00 - $45.00/hour DOE

We are looking for a Heavy Equipment / Diesel Mechanic to join our team at our Cayce, SC location. This position is responsible for the maintenance, repair, inspection, and troubleshooting of heavy equipment and diesel-powered machinery used in our operations. The ideal candidate will have experience working on diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and off-road heavy equipment in an industrial environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine maintenance and inspections on heavy equipment to identify potential issues.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic problems and propose effective solutions.
  • Perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of diesel engines and related systems on loaders, forklifts, trucks, and other heavy equipment.
  • Conduct repairs and overhaul components as necessary to ensure equipment reliability and performance.
  • Test machinery and equipment to ensure proper functionality and performance.
  • Conduct regular inspections to identify and address potential issues before they result in equipment failure.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair work completed, including parts used and labor hours.
  • Adhere to company safety protocols and procedures at all times.
  • Collaborate effectively with operations and maintenance personnel to minimize downtime and support production goals.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to less experienced employees as needed.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a diesel mechanic, heavy equipment mechanic, or similar role in an industrial environment.
  • Strong understanding of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and pneumatic systems.
  • Proficiency with diagnostic tools and equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, schematics, and technical drawings.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Technical certification, vocational training, or completion of an apprenticeship program is preferred.
  • Must own the basic tools required to perform job functions.
  • Must be able to successfully complete a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift heavy objects and perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and varying environmental conditions typical of an industrial operation.
  • Ability to safely operate and work around heavy equipment.
